How this social media addiction test works

This original self-assessment is a reflection tool, not a diagnosis or validated clinical scale. It calculates locally from four estimates you provide and never reads your social accounts or device activity.

Daily social-media time and daily checks each contribute up to 25 points, reaching their caps at 240 minutes and 60 checks. Session overrun contributes up to 25 points: staying within the planned length scores zero, while an actual session three times the plan reaches the cap. Interference contributes proportionally up to 25 points at seven days per week.

The combined band is a planning label rather than a medical severity category. Separate time-control, checking, and interference values make the arithmetic inspectable and help you choose a specific blocking target instead of treating the total as a verdict.

Total = time (0–25) + checks (0–25) + session overrun (0–25) + interference (0–25)

This tool cannot determine whether you have an addiction. If social-media use causes distress or seriously disrupts sleep, work, study, or relationships, consider speaking with a qualified health professional.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a clinical social media addiction test?

No. It is an original, transparent, non-diagnostic self-assessment. It does not copy or imitate a licensed clinical instrument.

What counts as a social media check?

Count each time you intentionally open or return to a social feed or social app. A rough estimate is fine; consistency matters more than perfect recall.

How does planned versus actual session length affect the score?

Finishing within your plan adds no overrun points. Longer sessions add points in proportion to the overrun, capped when actual length is three times the plan. Both numbers remain visible inputs.

Is my information saved or sent anywhere?

No. The score is calculated in your browser with no fetch calls. Reloading or leaving the page clears the entered values unless your browser restores form state.

How can I use the factor breakdown?

Choose the highest factor as a starting experiment: schedule a daily feed limit for time, add block windows for checking, use a shorter session timer for overrun, or protect disrupted periods with a recurring block.
